Getting to Know Dr. B

Get to Know Dr. B - Internal Medical Doctor

Why Did You Decide to Become a Primary Care Doctor?

I decided to become a primary care doctor to help patients understand the seriousness of their chronic conditions.

Also, I want patients to connect how their daily choices regarding food and physical activity, could cost us our life.

Bernice Collins was my grandmother. In my eyes, she was an Angel and loved by many.

Her PCP diagnosed her with diabetes and counseled her to cut down on sweets. No medication or further counseling was advised. My grandmother kept having her evening snacks before bed.

My grandmother’s life ended after being comatose with a blood sugar of over 800. She did not understand what diabetes was or how to manage it.

She did not understand if her blood sugar was not controlled it could cause her mortality. I vowed after her loss, to be of service to my patients. To screen them.

To educate, and answer all the questions they have. Follow up and make sure the actions were bringing the desired results.

What Hobbies Do You Like Outside of Work?

Exercise! I love to box, run, and dance. Gardening and traveling as well.

I look forward to an upcoming trip to Capetown, Africa next year. (Hopefully:). In my downtime, I love to sit on my porch and read a good book.

Most Important Factor In Doctor-Patient Relationship?

“I believe the best thing I can do for my patients is actively listen” This helps me identify their loves, likes, and fears concerning their health.

Then we are able to establish a patient physician partnership to care for them for life”

What is the Most Rewarding Part Of Being a Doctor?

The results! When patients return with good news! They have done the work to make the pain-staking lifestyle changes! The weight is coming down, the blood pressure and blood sugar are controlled!

They are drinking more water, exercising, and overall feeling better and enjoying life. The positive testimonies of my patients bring a smile to my face!
